Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research

These Consideration Guidelines were developed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research and health leaders to support researchers, particularly non-Indigenous researchers working in health and mental health. They aim to strengthen culturally safe, community-led research that benefits Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The online interactive tool brings together national resources created by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders to guide best practice. By using these resources, researchers can ensure their work does no harm, supports Closing the Gap, and positions Aboriginal people and communities as primary decision-makers and beneficiaries.

We thank the AEDTRC Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group for their leadership, and acknowledge the contributions of the Djurali Centre at the Heart Research Institute, the Manna Institute, the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of NSW, and WellMob.
