Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Self Check Tool
This Self Check Tool is designed primarily for non-Indigenous researchers working in health and mental health fields who seek to engage respectfully and meaningfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. It provides reflective statements aligned with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consideration Guidelines to guide you through each stage of your research.
The tool encourages self-reflection and helps build collective research expertise to ensure your work is community-led, responsive and supports efforts to Close the Gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
If you answer ‘no’ to any statements, ask yourself ‘Why not?’ and refer to the resource guide at the end for advice related to each key value.
This tool is a self-reflection companion to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consideration Guidelines by providing a practical and reflective approach to improving research partnerships and outcomes.
