Family Based Therapy

FBT is a treatment approach that involves the whole family in the recovery process of children, adolescents and young adults with eating disorders. This treatment model relies heavily on family involvement , and allows recovery within the home environment. FBT is structured in three distinct phases: (1) weight restoration, (2) restoring control of eating to young person, and (3) returning to normal adolescent development.

What this tool is good for:

While initially developed for treatment of adolescents with anorexia nervosa, FBT has been shown to be effective for the treatment of a variety of eating disorders. FBT empowers parents to take an active role in their child's recovery. This tool evaluates and addresses eating behaviors, family dynamics, and the psychological aspects of eating disorders.
