Bulimic Investigatory Test, Edinburgh

Authors

M. Henderson, C.P.L. Freeman (1987)

The Bulimic Investigatory Test, Edinburgh (BITE) is a self-report questionnaire designed to assess the presence and severity of bulimic and binge-eating symptoms. The BITE consists of two subscales: the Symptom Scale, which measures the degree of symptoms present, and the Severity Scale, which provides an index of the severity of bingeing and purging behaviour as defined by their frequency.

What this tool is good for:

BITE was designed to identify subjects with symptoms of bulimia or binge-eating. It can be used to identify binge-eating symptomatology in a given population or as a screening instrument for use in a clinical setting. In addition, it serves as a useful measure of severity and response to treatment.
